2021 Rally Day

The 87th Legislative Session began January 12, 2021, where the Texas Legislature will start making decisions that will impact the health, safety and future of our students. The pandemic is sure to have a major impact on the proceedings with funding at the root of most discussions.  

PTA's mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. The GCISD Council of PTAs will continue to share the priorities outlined by Texas PTA, the GCISD priorities, resources and ways to get involved to support our students, teachers and public education.  Texas PTA Legislative Priorities: https://www.txpta.org/legislative-priorities

Rally Day  - February 22, 2021

Every two years when the legislature is in session, Texas PTA brings our many voices together for a jubilant day in Austin, culminating on the steps of the State Capitol. Rally Day is an opportunity to exercise the mission of PTA: advocate for all children. While the pandemic is keeping us from loading up on buses or in cars to head to Austin, we will still be together virtually, with our thunderous voices.                                            

So, here’s what you can expect on this first-ever, historical Virtual Rally Day. There will be two virtual components to Rally Day.       

Part 1 will be hosted by Texas PTA.   Starting at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 22, you can catch the Texas PTA biennial Legislative Caucus live on Zoom and BAND. You will hear from legislators who will talk about several of Texas PTA’s legislative priorities and take questions from our members, as time allows. Watch for more details on topics and who will speak.  At 12:30 PM, you won’t want to miss the Rally streamed live to social media, Zoom and BAND. You will hear from Texas PTA President Suzi Kennon, who will be joined by more legislators to officially usher in Texas PTA’s voice for the 87th Legislative Session.

Part 2 will be hosted by the GCISD Council of PTAs.  Meetings will be scheduled with our legislatures to discuss top priorities for public education and GCISD.  Beginning in February, registration will be available for meeting times.
